While researching an article on those Buffalo SWAT raids, I reread this article about Erie County Executive Joel Giambra’s call for drug decriminalization, and found this bizarre statement from a state legislator:

Not everyone likes the idea, however. State Senator Dale Volker says legalizing some drugs will only make things worse. Volker says crime rates where drugs have been legalized are on the rise. He adds there wasn’t as much crime in Europe to begin with because there’s not as much wealth as there is in America.

And there you have it. More wealth = more crime.

These people make laws, remember. Laws that the rest of us have to follow.
