Obligatory Duke Lacrosse Post

Sunday, May 14th, 2006

So a second round of DNA tests don’t seem to have implicated any of the Duke lacross players. And prosecutor Mike Nifong has now apparently added blatant witness intimidation to repertiore. Lovely.

Two things that now seem clear to me:

1. The members of the lacrosse team at the party that night are a bunch of spoiled, bigoted, lecherous doucehbags in bad need of an ass kicking.

2. They’re getting railroaded.

On a related, slightly ad hominem note, I caught part of Sean Hannity’s show on the way home from work on Friday. It’s the third time in the last month I’ve stopped on his show while flipping through the radio dial. All three times he was railing against the prosecutor in this case. Also seems to be a hot topic with Laura Ingraham, the Fox crew (O’Reilly, Cavuto, Asman, etc.), Savage, Beck, and most of the conservative punditocracy.

Now don’t get me wrong, I think it’s wonderful that the Sean Hannitys and Laura Ingrahams of the world are tossing around phrases like “innocent until proven guilty,” “due process,” “zealous prosecutor,” and “the rights of the accused.” It’s swell to have them on board the civil liberties bandwaggon. Welcome!

But golly. I wonder. What could possibly have inspired them to side with the defendants this time around? And not only to side with the defendants, but to side with them in such a vigourous, outspoken manner?

Any guesses?
