In Which I Continue to Get Morgan Spurlock’s Mail

Friday, March 31st, 2006

People continue to do Internet searches for Spurlock, find something I’ve written that’s critical of him, and bizarrely assume that I’m him. It’s sort of fun, in a voyeristic kind of way. Today’s email comes in response to Spurlock’s now-infamous speech in Philadelphia, where he criticized McDonalds for — the horror! — hiring immigrants and the mentally challenged:

I’d like to register a complaint about the talk you gave at the Philidelphia high school, where you used the “R” word to describe students with disabilities.

My son is 21 years old. He has Down Syndrome. He graduated from Nicolet High School in Glendale, Wisconsin in 2003. He is employed. He is an active member of his community. He never sat in the back row and he has never worn a helmet.

Yes I appreciate the importance of free speech but not when it is used to demean or to take away the dignity of an individual.

I think the dude is fast-approaching self-pardoy.
