Just stumbled across this 2001 article while doing some research. Four part-time deputies in Butler, Missouri (population 4,201) — a doctor, a nurse, and two ambulance workers — chipped in to buy four MP5 submachine guns (the kind used by the Navy Seals), and four M-16s.

Why? They wanted to start their own SWAT team. No worries, though. The four took an eight hour course on how to use the weapons. So they’re ready for anything, now.

I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
