Clarification
Tuesday, November 1st, 2005The post below on the Democrats’ senate tactics was sarcasm. Judging from my email, I didn’t make that clear enough. The Democrats have been an impotent opposition party from the get-go when it comes to foreign policy. They’ve never demanded accountability from the Bush administration on Iraq because they’re too afraid of being perceived as soft on terrorism. They only managed to field a single, flaky anti-war candidate in the primaries. All of their potential 2008 candidates are tripping over themselves to win over the party’s pro-war flank. The New Republic is calling for the party to declare preemptive war on Syria or Iran, just to help win the election.
So yes, I thought it was obvious to the point of amusing that this was a stunt — as if Harry Reid suddenly decided to exercise some oversight and demand accountability, out of the blue, on a random Tuesday afternoon.
