A Decree

I hereby declare a moratorium on using the corpse of Rosa Parks as a prop to further one’s cause in the debate over nominee Alito. This means you, Chaz Schumer. This means you, National Italian American Foundation. And about the half-dozen or so others I’ve heard invoke her name with respect to Alito since this morning: you too.

I know y’all think you’re being eloquent in comparing these two seemingly disparate events taking place at the same time in the same city — the nomination of a Supreme Court justice, and the viewing of Parks in the Capital rotunda. But y’know what? It’s really kinda’ trite. And predictable. And shameless. Nobody is “against” Rosa Parks or what she stood (or sat, as it were) for anymore. So trying to claim her for your side makes you look pretty silly.

On the other hand, it’s in some ways charming that a group as conservative as NAIF can be as petty and overly sensitive as most of your lefty hurt-feelings identity groups.
