My latest Fox column kicks MADD in the pants on the occasion of its 25th birthday.
A few bullet point additions to the column:
Here’s a piece on how fewer and fewer police departments are partaking in sobreity checkpoints, mostly because they aren’t an efficient use of resources.
Here’s a piece looking at the larger statistical evidence pointing to the ineffectiveness of roadblocks.
And here’s a refreshingly forthright piece from USA Today airing the grievances against MADD.
My first draft also included discussion of this striking letter from MADD’s president in response to the op-ed I wrote a couple of months ago. It’s striking because the guy basically comes right out and says that he’s willing to give up more highway deaths in exchange for “sending a message” about underage drinking. Unfortunately, that graph didn’t make the final edit.
