Good News
Sunday, September 25th, 2005Breast cancer joins the list of about a dozen cancers we have on the run. Deaths from breast cancer have dropped by about 2 percent per year since 1990. Deaths and incidence of all cancers combined have dropped by about one percent per year over the same period. We also continue to set records for life expectancy, across all demographic groups.
Somehow, despite the dire headlines about rampant obesity, toxins in the environment, the pollutants in processed food, and the like, we seem to be be getting healthier.
Of course, you have to look a bit harder to find the good news. It’s just not as sexy as the scary stuff. But for all the talk about how pollution and obesity are killing us, it’s sometimes surprising to see just how darned well we’re doing.
