More on Katrina’s Motives
Wednesday, August 31st, 2005A couple of years ago, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee bizarrely protested that not enough hurricanes were being given “black” names. Little did I know, “Katrina” is apparently a “sister.” An African Methodist preacher suggested at a recent public rally yesterday that Katrina was a “black” hurricane wreaking retribution on the deep south for its centuries of racist behavior.
That’s not only ignorant, it’s mistaken on the facts. New Orleans is about 70% black. And given the general demographics of who would and would not have had the means to get out, I’d guess that New Orleans is well over 90% black post-Katrina. That is, it’s who the good minister would say are the victims of centuries of oppression that Katrina is punishing.
Opportunistic doofusry knows no color, creed, or ideological boundary.
