Six Feet Under

It plodded along for much of this last season. But man, what a terrific series. And one of the few that ended at just about the right time. The last three episodes have been mesmerizing.

And I just watched the series finale. I’m emotionally exhausted. That last sequence might have been the most powerful ten minutes I’ve ever seen on television. I was thinking as the finale was coming to a close, “man, it’s odd that this thing would end so upbeat.” Not a chance.

The show’s draw was that it managed to bring you face to face each week with your own mortality. Literally from the opening credits on. It was also brutal to its own characters. Which is why it was probably appropriate for the writers to make us watch each one of them die.

Was it just me, or did anyone get flashes of your own life as you watched each character’s life draw to a close? Anybody else get the morbid itch to know what date will be on the right side of your own obituary?

Crap.

Now I have the heebie-jeebies.
