Will Wilkinson, Walter in Denver, and Pete Guither think these comments should get Karen Tandy fired.

But in some ways, I like Matt McIntosh’s take, too. Tandy’s a clumsy flak, and she fairly regularly slips and lets the truth wriggle out, as it appears she’s done this time with Emery. We all know that when it comes to people like Emery and Peter McWilliams, it’s the activism that gets them busted, not their actual law-breaking. And we all know that that’s a pretty blatant trespass on political freedom. The citizens of free societies are by definition permitted to speak out against bad laws and excessive government. When someone in Tandy’s position accidentally spills the beans that today we aren’t permitted to speak out against laws we find repugnant, it puts the truth out there all raw and naked-like, for everyone to see. We just need to make sure lots of people see it, and recognize it for what it is.

So maybe she shouldn’t be fired. Maybe we need to get her a louder microphone.
