Mission Creep
Saturday, August 6th, 2005Henry Hyde has attached a troublingly vague provision to the House PATRIOT Act bill that could in theory allow prosecutors to levy the charge of “narcoterrorism” for a variety of drug crimes, beginning with anyone who possesses enough marijuana to be slapped with “distribution.” Minimum sentence: 20 years. As TalkLeft notes in the link above, the existing PATRIOT Act was just used to bust up a marijuana smuggling operation.
