Incredulously, President Bush responded to the London attacks by touting flypaper theory. Speaking on the London attacks, he said:

“We will stay on the offense, fighting the terrorists abroad so we do not have to face them at home.”

But we are facing them at home. And wer’re facing a mounting, growing, ever-more-vigilant insurgency in Iraq.

It’s a neat trick the White House and its allies have devised: If there are no terrorist attacks, it’s because their foreign policy is working. Stick to it. If there are terrorist attacks, we must remain steadfast. Altering our course would be appeasement. So we need to stick to it.

No matter what happens, they were right all along. Even if they were wrong.
