Shhh. Don’t Tell.
Tuesday, July 5th, 2005Two news items:
1) This New York Times piece on the Bush administration’s increasingly secretive methods of governance.
2) This quote from a brief filed by federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, on the Cooper-Miller case:
“Journalists are not entitled to promise confidentiality — no one in America is.”
Lesson drawn from the two: No one in America is permitted to keep secrets. Except for the government, which can keep secret whatever it damned well pleases.
Makes me feel all warm and America-y inside.
