Gov. Richardson’s Commitment to Safety
Friday, June 24th, 2005New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson has publicly expressed his support for a bill that would mandate ignition interlock devices in every vehicle sold in the state. The bill would have required every New Mexico resident to blow into a tube and pass an alcohol breath test before starting his vehicle. Four other states are now considering a similar bill. New Mexico is already the first state to require the devices for first-time DUI offenders.
This blatant violation of civil liberties apparently has something to do with “public health” and “highway safety.”
Which makes Gov. Richardson’s chronic and unapologetic speeding problem all the more interesting.
