Ben Shapiro’s Porn

Friday, May 20th, 2005

The lad Ben “Fiddle While Baghdad Burns” Shapiro plumbed the depths of mass media to breathlessly consume dilligently research the dirtiest, sweatiest, filthiest porn he could find, then wrote a book about it.

To be extra, extra sure we know what the book’s all about, family values publisher Regnery put “PORN” in bright red letters across the top. You know, so if you’re looking for a book that exploits the public fascination with sex in much the same way the porn business does that condemns the way pornography exploits our fascination with sex, you’ll know exactly where to find it.

Reminds me of the way Bill O’Reilly or Joe Scarborough will “condemn” the Janet Jackson halftime show, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogues, or Desperate Housewives by relentlessly showing clips and pictures of the “filth” over and over in the promos and pre-commercial teases for their shows.

I particularly like the concluding sentence from the inside flap of Shapiro’s book:

Porn Generation is the book that will define this generation–and provide a warning for generations to come.

The first clause is of course delusional puffery.

But how ’bout that second clause? Is it it me, or is there a deliciously wicked double entendre lurking in there?
