CBC Archives
Monday, March 7th, 2005Via Boing Boing, here’s a delightful archive of 1960s news stories from the CBC.
My favorite is a 1966 interview with Leonard Cohen, then a struggling writer who’s decided to try his hand at music.
There should be more of this kind of thing on the web. Before it closed its Arlington location to relocate to D.C. (the new building isn’t finished yet) the Freedom Forum’s Newseum — a museum history of journalism — had a great video timeline as one of its exhibits. It was a giant wall of TVs, grouped by decade, with looped video coverage of the world’s major events from the advent of television onward.
It was chilling to see, say, Dan Rather break in with news of the assasination attempt on President Reagan. Or coverage of the Challenger explosion. Kennedy’s death. John Lennon’s death. Really a cool exhibit.
I’m not sure why it couldn’t be replicated online. Or why the major news organizations couldn’t upload the video themselves.
