Thursday, March 3rd, 2005Funny little aside to Sen. Ted Stevens’ plan to expand indecency regs to include cable TV and satellite radio:
Stevens was speaking to the National Association of Broadcasters, one of the oldest, most entrenched, most protectionist lobbies in Washington. Stevens’ plan was obviously to make broadcasters angry that cable isn’t required to submit to the same regulations they are.
From Reed Business Information (no link):
Stevens said he was watching a cable network recently and was disgusted at what he saw at 8 p.m.“The star of the show, a cartoon-character lion, openly discussed sex toys and masturbation,” he said. “As a matter of fact, I can’t remember really getting up and leaving a program at my age, but I did the other night. On cable, I just got tired of the four-letter words with participles. I decided that whoever wrote that program didn’t have a dictionary.”
He’s talking about the program Father of the Pride. It aired on NBC.
That’s broadcast, not cable.
