Evolutionary Capitalism

Will Wilkinson’s superb cover piece in the new Cato Policy Report glances off one of my favorite areas of thought — the intersection of free markets and evolutionary psychology. I love to read stuff on the similarites between the way competition guides market forces and the way competition has and continues to guide natural selection and evolution. Seems to me it’s a uniquely libertarian consideration, given that conservatives don’t care much for evolution, and leftists don’t care much for markets. I’m told Matt Ridley touches on these themes in his work. He’s on my reading list.

Will’s piece focuses more specifically on whether or not evolution has wired human nature for capitalism. His answer: A qualified yes.
