Monday, September 20th, 2004Just caught the season finale. I thought it was terrific. The season on the whole got off to a slow start, and at times force-fed the dark themes (how much bad luck can fall on one family, anyway?). It’s still one of the best shows on TV — I’d put it just after The Sopranos and Deadwood. But I didn’t pine for each episode this year as I did in the first two seasons.
Still, I thought the finale was one of the best episodes in the series. Plenty of darkness the show is known for, but also some mystery, and some humor. It even closed with a few scents of uncharacteristic optimism.
HBO rocks.

But, hey, the new season of The Wire just started. Damn, that’s a spectacular show.
On a completely unrelated note, there’s an ad on the left for “Intellectual Morons”, and makes a reference to Dan Rather for supporting dubious info. This has gone far enough, you fools. Excuse me, but, as a writer @ LewRockwell.com pointed out, nobody died as a result of Rathergate. For all the huzzah everyone is raising over CBS and Rather’s overreliance on and succeptability to bad intelligence, it’s odd that the same people didn’t raise the same points about the Bush administration…and THEIR mistakes cost tens of thousands of lives. Not to get too preachy here, but, hell, the White House even set up their own shadow intelligence agency to cherry-pick intel for their agenda. And Dan Rather is the “intellectual moron”?
What do you think of Dead Like Me? I’ve seen the first half of the first season (a friend has the DVD) and I think it’s pretty clever. Don’t know if the plot has staying power, though.

I’m a big fan of “Dead Like Me”. This season is pretty good – they are really concentraiting on the “back story” of Mandy Patankin’s character this season. He’s presently taken some time off “reaping” to investigate why a package he delivered to “someone” (most likely his family) about 80 years ago didn’t get delivered.
If you have someone you know who has digital cable “IN DEMAND” you can watch this season and catch up.
On an aside to “DEADWOOD” – I caught of glimpse of Robin Wiegert (Calamity Jane) at the Emmys – she should have got an Emmy just for the way they made her look on DEADWOOD. She looked like an entierly differnt person at the Emmys.
