I would hardly mourn for Kevin Chavous’ defeat. He may have said nice things about school choice, but he also tried to lower the city’s mandatory schooling age to THREE.
From what I understand of the primary races the incumbents were defeated based on the idea that they have not done enough to redistribute wealth to the poorest areas of the city. Barry’s best known accomplishment as Mayor was to massively increase the City payrolls with job programs. He also has the dubious distinction of overseeing the explosion of crime and the degradation of the Police Department. But if you a poor hoodlum in Anacostia those are all positive qualities, so of course you would vote for him.
