Fantasy Takers?

Wednesday, July 21st, 2004

So I was thinking about what fantasy football league to enter this year, and then I figured, why not start my own?

The main advantage of an Agitator.com league of course would be that we could trash talk in the comments section after each week’s match-ups.

So I started a low-maintenance Yahoo! league. I have room for eleven teams, including my own. If you’re interested, shoot me an email, and I’ll send you the password and league name.

No entry fee. Winners get bragging rights. Entries will be doled out on a hybrid system where people I know get first dibs, followed by first-come-first-served.

Please only enter if you plan on giving it a fair amount of attention, and plan to stick with it throughout the season.

I’m in more than one league this year, but I’m happy to participate if you’ll have me.

Well, the only fantasy league I’ve ever been in was an XFL fantasy league (no joke). And the commenter above runs a sports blog. But it’s worth a shot.

    Hope I’m not too late.

I have never heard of someone being in an XFL league. How did that go? How do you even prepare for that draft?

What code of football are we talking here? knowing nothing of american rules, i could be a “control” to see if luck fares better than alleged good judgement..

We did the XFL fantasy league mostly as a joke. We made up team names with as many Xs as we could (in keeping with the XFL theme), and just went for it.

Though you could do a live draft, we figured that after 10 picks or so everyone we had ever heard of would be chosen, so we let the computer do it for us. Then we just started a flurry of trades and stuff, because some of us ended up with 4 starting QBs, while some had 4 third stringers.

It was pretty fun stuff, because each of us was as stupid as the rest.

That rules! Since you had a fantasy team, did it make the XFL bearable?

    Luca -

Surprisingly, no. Vince McMahon still managed to ruin it for me.

I’m from Green Bay for God’s sake.

I own a piece of stock in the Packers.

As long as I get Favre for my QB I’m in and I win.
