Emmys
Tuesday, July 20th, 2004Predictably, the Emmys overlooked Deadwood and, unforgiveably, Ian McShane.
Wouldn’t it be great to see Al Swearengen haul off and bitchslap Josiah Bartlet’s smarmy, self-righteous mug?

Wow. I didn’t understand either one of those sentences one bit. Except that “Emmy” means it has something to do with TV.
Thanks for making me feel better about the amount of TV I watch!
Brian:
I think it’s supposed to be some Miller-esque comment about two people that we’re supposed to find funny. Just smile and nod.

No way. Deadwood is easily the best show on TV right now. Ian McShane’s Al Swearengen has got to be one of the finest performances ever done anywhere. If you haven’t watched it, you must if you’re a fan of any quality entertainment.
As far as Al bitchslapping Josiah, I’d rather see the look on his face as Swearengen asks him,
“Rum? Whiskey? Snatch?”
Al Swearengen is the most interesting character to grace the small screen in quite some time.
I dunno who Josiah Bartlet is. Is he that president guy on that garbage-dump show that about the West Wing? Either way, Al wouldn’t waste his time “bitchslapping” him. He’d just give Dan Dority the nod, and that’d be the last we see of him.
Fucking fools, all of them. People give the Emmy panel shit because they give HBO so many nods. Well, they deserve it. And people say that HBO has an advantage, cuz they can show and say things that networks can’t. Well, if that’s so, then why did Deadwood alone get more nominations than all of Showtime, since Sho has the same freedom?
No, this stinks really nasty-like. It’s not objective, and too much play is given to the whiners who complain about HBO getting so many noms.
As Danno said, Deadwood is easily the best show on television. And The Wire, also a contender for best show on tv, didn’t get any nods because they weren’t airing during the eligibility time frame. Ugh.
I say it’s high time we fed the Emmy panel to Wu’s pigs. McShane’s performance is on-par with the best of Pacino. “oh, but we gotta be fair to the networks…”
Good thing I don’t give a shit about the Emmy’s…as long as the next season gets here quicker than it’s taking The Wire, I’m happy.
LOL, michael! The only word that is used more than the ‘f’ word in Deadwood!
One might wonder at this juncture whether the Austrian theories of interpersonal value comparisons and the impossibility thereof might not have something to say about “… easily the best show on tv…”

Ya! Exactly! Danno and Evan, you are girlie men for liking a tv show other than Hanz and Franz too much! May be we will pick you up with our baby finger and fling you into a pile of your own baby poop!
One might also wonder why the fuck you talk so goddamned uppity, Miss Knott.
All awards shows suck.
Richard,
You’re forgetting the Hot d’Or (currently defunct) and the AVN Awards (links mostly NSFW)… With those, it’s the AWARD RECIPIENTS who suck…
Why Mr. Swearengen, whatever might be your issue? It has long been known that a recourse to profanity marks a lesser intellect and has appeal only to those so bereft of apprpeciation for the finer things in life as to make one doubt their humanity. When the profanity is the only notable feature of the person, how can we even accept the bestowal of the presumption of personhood?
You big poopy-head.

Shirley Knott, you’re my hero..
the emmy committee must consist of a bunch of hoople-heads
Wouldn’t it be great to see Al Swearengen haul off and bitchslap Josiah Bartlet’s smarmy, self-righteous mug?
Jack Bauer would kill them both with his pinky finger.
That was kind of the fucking idea, Miss Knott.
Besides, there is a fucking difference between crude fucking language and goddamn profanity.
Can you fucking goddamn spot it?
Well, my dear Mr. Swearengen, it appears you have decisively proven both of my points.
What a pity. May we expect you will now take your campaign of civilizing influences to other sites where they will be appreciated?
