Back to Madison
Wednesday, July 14th, 2004If you’ll remember, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-flessed federal anti-alcohol program worked with University of Wisconsin officials a while back to pressure local bar and tavern owners into eliminating drink specials for a year. The theory was that doing so would cut down on alcohol-related crime in Madison.
It didn’t. And for their efforts, the bar and tavern owners were later taken to court by local bar patrons in a class-action price-fixing suit.
Now, the Madison Alcohol Licensing Review Committee (ain’t local government great?) is attempting to ban on all drink specials in the city.
Thanks to Thomas Pearson for the tip.

Wait til Ed Helms from the Daily show finds out!
Because life is bullshit, man.
Sounds like it’s not on the path to passing, at least. But it’s truly, truly sad that this is even being mentioned as an issue. Prohibitionists never know when to quit.
I just love professional wet-blankets…they must be so proud of themselves.
Eventhough i don’t agree with the ban, i would agree that the local officials should have the power to decide if they want have the local area vote of if they want to ban all drik specials
