CYNZIA2_lrg.jpg

So after this post on smoking’s hip quotient, I did a little Google work on the guy who painted the picture, an artist named Fabian Perez. I really like his stuff. He’s classified as a “romantic realist,” whatever that means. There are lots more noirish pieces like the smoker I used in the post in his collection — more rainscapes, faceless men in fedoras, shadowy figures, and the like (see here, here, here, and here). This one needs to be in my office.

But even more striking are his women. Beautiful, strong, sexy, elegant — they look like the kind of women who could debate you to a draw at the bar over wine, then take you home and show you the time of your life (see here, here, here, and here).

Unfortunately, the websites of the various galleries where his work is on display don’t offer prints, only originals. Not quite at the point in my life just yet where I have three or five or ten grand in my budget for decor. But if any of you happen to know where I might get a reproduction of one of his pieces, lemme know.

Find a more extensive online gallery of his work here.

I can see the Romantic Realist in his paintings. Wonderful work. I’d like to have them in my own home.

I agree Ms. Dani – and these paintings certainly beat all that ‘modern art’ pollution.

I think he takes photograhs and then paints over them. Nice to look at, but hardly works of art IMO.

“Nice to look at, but hardly works of art” Isn’t that what visual art is supposed to be? Nice to look at?

“Isn’t that what visual art is supposed to be? Nice to look at? ” No I think it is more then that. I think the definition of art is subjective and I don’t consider everything that is nice to look at as qualifying as art.

You can call it ‘art’, you can call it garbage. Just as long as you don’t call it ‘government funded’.

Nice painting. It could really tie the room together.

Jesus, Radley. How is it that people can have good taste in music, but then just FAIL when it comes to the visual arts? Sigh.

The dude is ultra talented. He also wrote a book. Don’t know anything about it, but it has a cool title “Reflections on a Dream”.

I was wondering what Will would think of this. Figures…

    His art inspires me.

I happened to step into an art gallery in Vegas last weekend, where I saw these amazing hand-painted giclees (limited number editions). The longer I looked at Fabian Perez’s artwork, the more entranced I felt. His work is wonderful! Those of you that don’t seem to appreciate his work should look longer. He captures human sensuality and captures light in a captivating way. I would love to see some of his originals in person.

I bought an original a few years ago and also have a hand enhanced print. The hand enhanced giclees are a great “hybrid” between a simple litho or print, and an original. Not quite the same as having the original, but also not the same price tag either.
As far as his ability and technique, I think the guy is amazing. His use of shadow and his ability to capture a mood are amongst the best I’ve seen in recent years. I love his stuff and wish I could afford more of his original work.

Just had a limited edition print for my 40th birthday – waiting for romance. Its taken pride of place in my lounge. I think his work shows, passion, sensuality and something really precious. If I could afford more I would willing go out and buy more, my favourite being ‘Tango’. I wish him luck in his future work, although I hardly think he needs it. Incidently my print was purchased in Yeovil, Somerset, England for around £400 incl. mount and frame
