Piscataway braves raid a Virginia town. In response, Goodman Johnson starts a broadsheet, regularly published, in which he details the ill-doings of the Natives. If he hears of a Native who beats his wife in Pennsylvania, he writes about it. If another kills his daughter, he writes about it. If he learns of Natives in New York who attack other Natives in New York, he writes about it, explaining it as proof of their warlike nature. If word comes to him that some Native somewhere has complained that the English have themselves caused some of the trouble between White Man and Red, he writes about it. When Natives say nothing on the subject, he writes, darkly, of their tacit approval of Piscataway violence. He writes approvingly of those who call for war with just about any group of Natives you can name, and disdainfully of those who demur. Not just Piscataway, but Pomonkey (with whom there has been no trouble), the Five Civilized Tribes in Georgia, the Seminole far off in the Land of Flowers, the Aztec in Spanish America. He doesn’t say, “They should all be killed!” Never. Nor does he ever complain about any incident in which they are, by European settlers.And he writes of essentially nothing else, for two years and more. He goes out of his way to find material.
This is before the Internet. There are no “comments sections.” Is this man’s behavior evidence of bigotry toward American Indians?
Not much to add, here.
I rarely read LGF. However, I don’t think he covers wife beatings. Rather, culturally-based abuse of women. And, it’s not that the “Natives” are silent, it’s that they make statements that do not mention or seek to apologize for atrocities committed by “Natives.” For instance, has CAIR explicitly condemned OBL? They’ve done lots of other things, like complaining about the pic of the Marine with the cardboard sign. They’ve found the time to do that, but have they wholeheartedly condemned OBL?

IIRC, there was some news event that caused Chuck to start LGF. I forget exactly what it was. I think he blog started changing right after he wrote about a house covered in chedder cheese. I think it was that post that did it, or maybe one of the ones right after it.
No, I think more has to be said.
Jim’s example is not evidence of bigotry, it’s evidence of focus. We would need to examine the content of the analysis to judge the nature of the focus. If Goodman complains about all Natives for being Natives, and never discusses the ideology, and never praises any Natives who warn of the dangers inherent in the ideology; then we might conclude that there is likely to be bigotry.
However, that’s not the case with LGF.
Were Cold War anti-communists anti-Russian bigots? No, they recognized the ideology as dangerous but didn’t hate all of the people who happened to live in Soviet dominated areas. They praised Sakharov.
Focusing on the dangers of Islamist ideology is not bigotry. I realize that you guys oppose our action in Iraq, but that doesn’t justify being quick to paint your opponents as Nazis.

I had to enter the name “Bin Laden” into the search box on CAIR’s page to find that. It wasn’t hard.
While you are searching CAIR, Ted, search for “Yassin”, “Palestine”, “Palestinian”, “Hamas” and “Hezbolah” and see how many terror denunciations you find. (Other than claims of Jooooo terror against Arabs.)
Julius Streicher used the same technique in his Nazi newspaper, Der Stuermer. Cherry-pick for crimes committed by Jews and presto, instant propaganda.
The neocon outfit MEMRI does the same thing. Sift through the Moslem press for the most extreme and absurd statements and present them as if they represented the mainstream. Any Moslem could do the same just by doing a quick search of the posts by some of the idiots at Free Republic.
The statement from CAIR is quite full of loopholes and weasel opportunities.
For more on CAIR, check out one of their victims. Hopefully he can find some money and get some good information via discovery.

I’d like to see how FReepers would behave towards an occupying army that has bombed the crap out of their city, and killed many of their friends and family members, in addition to other atrocities/indignities we probably don’t know about.
