Friday, April 9th, 2004Good turnout. Interesting crowd.
It was fun, though I apparently missed out on the good conversations. There were multiple Matthew Yglesias citings. P.J. Doland convinced me to read a comic book called The Watchmen. This will be the first comic book I’ve read in about 20 years.
Also, I had far too many bourbons, and have been slowly nursing myself back to functionality all day.

Radley, I am not a comic book (or as Tom Servo would retort, “It’s a graphic novel!”) afficianado but I was lent a copy of “The Watchmen” about 10 years ago and it was worth the time I spent reading it. You will enjoy it!
Once the basal metabolism begins to slow, say in a young man’s mid-twenties, it’s time to go from brown liquor to white. The impurities get harder and harder to handle . . .
May I suggest either Monopolowa or Luksusowa, both high-quality potato vodkas that when served ice cold (not just martini chilled) entice a warm fuzziness that explains a lot about Eastern European passion and survivability. Less effete than Chopin or Grey Goose, and more reasonably priced to boot (as it were).
Plus, the jackhammers the next day are a lot more manageable.
Hint: 500mg of Niacin, 4 aspirin and a big ol’ cup o’ water before nitey-nites help a bunch, too.
The Watchmen is an engaging yarn, as is Moore’s anarchist graphic novel V For Vendetta.
Perhaps also consider getting hold of ‘Kingdom Come’ by Mark Waid sometime thereafter.
