Most Ridiculous Item of the Day
Friday, February 27th, 2004Bill O’Reilly asks Variety’s Michael Speier why there’s such a fuss over The Passion of the Christ:
“Is it because the major media and much of the press is controlled by Jewish people?”
That’s exactly it, Bill. They are also responsible for the lead in the D.C. water supply. You might also warn your viewers to keep them away from Christian babies, especially around the high holidays.
Anybody want to hook O’Reilly up with the Adbusters people?

Most Ridiculous Item of the Day
Radley Balko says Jews are “responsible for the lead in the D.C. water supply,” and intimates that they use the blood of Christian babies to cook their religious meals.
Welcome to the No Context Zone, where our motto is, “if you donâ??t like whatâ??s said, donâ??t waste time addressing the statement: launch a personal attack on the speaker.”
Hat tip: Walnut Grove publication, for informing us that “Was is Declared!” (on high prices).
Why are the Jews always causing trouble?
TD: “Radley Balko says Jews are “responsible for the lead in the D.C. water supply,” and intimates that they use the blood of Christian babies to cook their religious meals.”
OK, it’s early and my caffeine quota has not yet been even close to reached, b-u-u-u-t I’m thinking that there was probably a little facetiousness at play here. This was a perfect attack on the statement. Radley’s the master of reductio ad absurdam, a favorite of all of us who have well-exercised eye-rolling muscles.
The point, (and I am speaking only for myself) is that reasonable people could and should have a very difficult time attaching the understandable misgivings Jewish folks have had about this flick to the rather Godless MO that most major media employ. Jews, after all, are not Christians – their theological context is going to be obviously different. But this contextual incongruence is not enough to be the cause of the stink that the punditry have raised. Not by a long shot.
Were this 4:30 in the afternoon, I could come up w/ a better one, but right now I think O’Reilly, who is at the end of the day one who must keep the tension high to sell the next show, is guilty of the post hoc prompter hoc fallacy, e.g. “There were lots of bears in the woods after that forest fire, so they must have caused it.”
Any media fuss over this show is
a) mostly the usual media fuss over anything they can fuss over, and
b) to a smaller extent the natural tendency of the self-important to denigrate religion and anything else that they believe might render them a bit less relevant.
O’Reilly’s attachment of Jewish over-representation in expensive media company offices is not a natural conclusion if these particular Jewish executives are in fact religious Jews. The timbre of the to-do has not been one containing the reasonability that an inter-faith discussion would entail. Even one which has its roots in an anxious history.
Ultimately, and what O’Reilly either missed or left out to keep the cacaphony at a decent clip, is if these executives are not religious then their Jewishness becomes completely irrelevant, and it’s their irreligiosity which then becomes the crux of the biscuit.
One may as well have been a Buddhist or Zoroastrasian at that point; it just doesn’t matter.
Bill didn’t do anybody any favors with that one.
Any serious discussion of this issue needs to keep in mind the +1 SD Ashkenazic IQ Bonus.

We also need to clearly understand the difference between Judaism and Zionism.
Rad. I’ve often wondered what caused people to condemn the Jews. Personally I’ve never had one to do me or mine any harm. Some of them have helped me. Am I to resent them for that? But for the life of me I can’t figure out their bitch over the Passion. Are they running someone for elected office against a christian somewhere? It sounds like a political harangue.
As much as I like a good conspiracy theory, I think it has more to do with hollywood being upset about how they were cut out of the mix on the film than anything else.
Impressive, to be sure.
But O’Reilly isn’t Jewish. He may be a Zionist, but how that plays out here is obscured by the fact he’s a talking head first, which nullifies any algorithm, corollary or transmutation, in that division by 0 is irrational no matter what.
And, as my ol’ Grampa used to say, “Any idiot can talk out his ass, but that don’t keep the laundry clean.” Which I always assumed was a commentary on the difference between intelligence and wisdom, but was too afraid to ask.
Cut the Jews some slack. My Jewish neighbor stopped eating babies at least a week ago. Also, they’ve done a pretty good job of controlling the world, I think.
Most intelligent comment of the day
Tyler – no context zone
Obviously O’Reilly was provoking for sensationalism.
I thought it was controlled by liberals.
Don’t blame those of the Jewish faith.
It’s ….my fault.
There I feel better.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to take the responsibility for everything else at this time.
This message has been brought to you by the Association of People Who Understand That Everyone has an Axe to Grind over Something and Want to Blame Someone Else for Their Personal Strife.
O`Reilly misses the point completely on this one. He narrows it down to a very small component of a much larger picture. The fuss is really over the first major battle of the Culture War.his thing has been simmering on the fringe for years and has finally erupted. On one side you have Gibson~s movie, on the other you have the issue of gay marriage. These certainly aren`t the only issues involved but when you have them both surfacing at the same time a major battle was enevitable and be assurred this is only one battle in what will prove to be a long war. Like all battles this one will produce casualties, some of the more recent being Janet Jackson,Howard Stern Bubba the Love Sponge, etc. I don`t have a clue who will triumph in this first battle but I believe the result of the upcoming presidential election will be very telling and thats sad because ours is a country truely divided.
liberals…jews…what’s the difference?
FROM FRI. OPINION JOURNAL Guess the Critics Had a Point
“Critics worry that Mr. Gibson’s film, which has already been embraced by Christian preachers as a tool of evangelization, will reawaken old prejudices–not that Jews are guilty of killing Christ, but that Jewish liberals control the entertainment and media industries and have imposed a secular, left-leaning bias on movies and television.”–New York Times, Feb. 20
“Hollywood is a close-knit world, and friendships and social contact are critical in the making of deals and the casting of movies. Many of Hollywood’s most prominent figures are also Jewish. . . . Many in the relentlessly secular movie industry see [Gibson's] recent religious conversion–he practices a traditionalist version of Roman Catholicism–as another form of addiction.”–New York Times, Feb. 26
Who do think would when in a fight?
The jewish controlled media or the vast right wing conspiracy?
OReilly absolutely said that for sensationalist effect. He was prodding the dude. He doesn’t really think that.
Although…
Christian baby . . . the other white meat.
An addiction to being Catholic? THAT is the ridiculous item of the day. The NYT gets sillier every day.
Good to know the right is not ceding any anti-semitic ground to the left.
