Wonder how many other kids have had their lives ruined, were sent to abusive rehab centers, or were otherwise set up because some dipshit administrator thought they were too black, too goth, too grunge, or too otherwise unsavory to not be into drugs?
I am always surprised that any parent thinks it is acceptable to send their children into a gov’t educational system. No one cares more or is more able to teach my children then me.
Did I mention I am not surprised the incident you mentioned happened?
Tom, you are so right! Home schooling is the way to go if you want your children to have well-formed minds, intellectually and spiritually.
As a product of a secular/religous education, I will say that I received more arduous instruction in Catholic school then in public school. However, with all the PC going around these days, they make it hard to learn anything of value in both venues IMO.
Want your kid to succeed? Teach them to yourselves. Don’t send them to the government schools. They are full of do-gooders like Patrick Conroy that believe that the ends justify the means; not to mention they’ll give your child a two-bit education.
I have been trying desperately to remember where I read an article about a rehab center that was offshore, and thus not subject to U.S. law. The article detailed some of the abuse these kids suffered. Children were held there for years on end. It was was one of the most horrible things I’ve ever read. I feel certain that someone out there knows different, but judging from whence I came, my mother was raised in the Odd Fellows Home in Corsicana went on to a medical success. My college roommate was a product of the Masonic Home in Ft.Worth and he too went on to a successful life.
Where did the institutional idea fall out of favor into the quagmire of multiple foster homes that seem to be managed in large part by those seeking home employment rather than working for a living. I’m familiar with the workings of religious institutions that look on an orphanage as a proseltizing bounty of potential members and have had serious problems with potential agnostics or heathens that have justifiably led to their total shutdown.
Boy’s Town has been an exception as well as The Ranch in Amarillo, Texas.
Most of the public apparently doesn’t know or doesn’t care, but too many of the rehab,rectify and repent people are in the business for the money. The people we send them for correction are looked on as additional money. SAD!
