D.C. may have lost Lloyd Grove to New York, but we now have two, count ‘em two, hipster gossip blogs. I guess this means I’ll need to be more cautious when carrying out my late night romps with Jennifer Eccleston in the Potomac tidal basin. Prying eyes are watching. So welcome Swamp City and Wonkette.

I think we should keep a running “scoop score” to see which site breaks the better tips. So far, both sites have referenced Katherine Harris’ breasts, Wesley’ Clark’s stint at Dunkin’ Donuts, and let us know that bratty, has-been, curse-casting director Vincent Gallo is a Republican. Swamp City was up and running first. But Wonkette has the backing of Nick Denton — who started the very successful Gawker, which gossips NYC; and Fleshbot, which, inexplicably, has transmogrified Net porn from shameful late night habit of the dateless to the topic du jour amongst coffeehouse intellectuals:

Guy Hipster: “I’m totally into dwarf porn now. Little naked people. Gettin’ it on all over the place. Drives me wild.”

Girl Hipster: “Um…I think I’ll move to another table.”

Guy Hipster: “Nah. It’s all good. I found it on Fleshbot.”

Girl Hipster: “Oh. Why didn’t you say so?” Twirls a strand of hair. “You wanna’ split a hookah?”

I digress.

I give a slight nudge thus far to Swamp City, only because SC had the good sense to toss TheAgitator.com a link.
