this man horrifies me and apparently most of Iowa as well

My very liberal friend (who doesn’t have a blog but should) sent me an instant message today and said that Dean was a freak.

Moxie:
Well I’m glad you’ve finally come to your senses. The man is insane.

Him:
Dean should be a factory foreman, or for that matter his speech was pure WWF. His NPR supporters probably think he’s so original…they could have been watching Vince McMahon the whole time.

Moxie:
Have you not been reading my posts about him?

Him:
I skip your political posts.

Moxie:
Thx.

Him:
Oh honey..i don’t listen to you on politics…you know that.

Moxie:
But we agree on him! I posted a month ago that he’d be amusing if put in his proper place — as a character on a UPN sitcom. Uptown boy lives rural and learns a lot about life in the process. And he’s ready to rumble!! It’s The Simple Life meets WWF.

Him:
Dean reminds me of three cartoon characters; Fred Flintstone, Homer Simpson and Mr. Burns. Dean is the over-confident devious dumb guy.

And as my commenters predicted, he got less-fewer votes than expected.

I love when they are right.

PS: To steal a style from my pal Mickey Kaus, I actually like Edwards. He’s calm, sensible and intelligent about domestic and foreign affairs. He’s someone that would sway me from voting on party-lines — even though I don’t agree with him all the time.

PPS: I’m doing this because Mickey does.

PPPS: I think Lieberman is a stand-up guy too, but he’s got no chance in hell.

PPPPS: Now I’m just plain making fun of Kaus.

PPPPPS: For the confused, I think Kaus is a good guy too.

True story: While Dean was ranting and raving on stage last night my 14 year old son wandered into the kitchen from his room for a snack. He looked in the living room and said, “Oh I thought you guys were watching wrestling.”

    I laughed for quite a while…

And now I’m laughing too, Tom. The comparison is astute!

The audio file on Drudge right now is hilarious as well.

The head Deaniac sounded like Lord Humungus (of The Road Warrior) on that stage.

And this is only one of the reasons I’m not voting for Dean (and probably wont ever)… if a man cannot control his own temper, how in the world can he control anything outside himself?

Nitpick (and trivial it is): It’s “WWE” not “WWF” (Vince’s company lost a lawsuit with the World Wildlife Fund and had to change the abbreviation to avoid further issues). Got the link right, though.

That being said, there is nothing wrong with “cutting a good promo” for a match (election). It gets people interested (as opposed to apathetic) in the match (election). Unfortunately, it looks like Dean is cutting a “heel promo” (or “Look, I’m the bad guy!”) which is a lot more likely to evoke sympathy for the opponents.

Maybe if he shaves his head and goes “Stone Cold” he could be percieved as the “anti-hero” (Dean 3:16 - “I gonna whup your ass in the polls!”).

I thought it was wrestling, too! The first I heard about the Iowa results was driving home from the movies, listening to BBC. They played the Dean clip, and I thought, “this must be a joke. Somebody sent the Beeb a wrestling clip.”

WWF/WWE: same difference. They’re all apes, and Dean’s caw was straight off the Animal Planet channel.

This is slightly off topic, but a portion of the WWF site is used to track two polar bears in the Arctic Circle. I read about it today in the new National Geographic (a magazine I’m not ashamed to admit that I read solely for the pictures).

Actually Dean sounded like Hitler. I had seen a clip of Hitler speaking to the Reichstag just before seeing his “Iowa Yell,” and the similarity was chilling. Although, the way the Democrats have been talking about Bush, perhaps they think this makes Dean seem “Presidential.”

Well maybe his a cappella version of the star spangled banner will make things better after his Iowa debacle…

I can’t believe you are all openly mocking Mr. Radley Balko’s favorite presidential canidate right here on his own blog.

    Blasphemy!

Radley Balko is absolutely correct. Howard Dean is a genius and we should all vote for him and try to be more like him.

Moxie, you’re absolutely right in saying that this man is horrifying. I first heard the audio clip on talk radio on the way to work. I was laughing so hard at the “YAAAAARRGH!” that I almost drove off the road (which makes me think that listening to a Dean rant is worse than talking on a cell while driving). But when I finally saw the clip, then I was scared. And the picture you threw in with this post makes Dean look more like Hitler than anything I’ve seen done with Bush. Now I’m not actually saying he’s anything like Hitler, but geez…his handlers need to start slipping him ludes or something before they put him behind a podium. I wonder what roadtrips were like with him in college…

I think you guys are going quite a bit overboard on this. Dean was trying to rally his troops in an emotional way, his tired voiced cracked at the wrong time. In absolutely no way does this make him ’scary’.

Frankly, it’s scary that so many people can be influenced by the anti-Dean media’s overblown coverage of this.

/btw, Though I’m a Dem, I wasn’t voting for Dean in the first place and was thrilled that Kerry won in Iowa.

Howard, you had me at “YAAAAARRGH!”

Funny how one audio/video clip can drop you from the top so quickly. The guy is turning into a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham. (credit and apologies to Woody Allen)

Say hi to Kucinich and Sharpton on your way down, Howie…

Not to change the subject, but in respsonse to this comment…”I actually like Edwards. He’s calm, sensible and intelligent about domestic and foreign affairs.”

Heck, yeah, he’d be great at foreign affairs. Instead of using military intervention, he’d just sue everyone in the UN and all over the world.

    Problem solved.

Arthur, as far as I’ve heard Edwards supported the war in Iraq and on terror in general.

He and Joe L. are the only Dem candidates who aren’t pansy-bottomed pacifists.
