By this logic, the Normandy invasion would never have happened, and God knows what the world would look like today. After all, Hitler didn’t kill very many Canadians or Americans. Mr. Balko, national interest is not arethmetic; but, I suspect you know that. Stop being snarky, and start being thoughtful again — that’s why this anonymous reader began reading you in the first place.

You’re right. Hitler didn’t kill many Americans. But he did declare war on us.

Obviously, terrorist surprise attacks are more effective than conventional declarations. However, fifty thousand were possible at the WTC. We should launch some surprise nukes, huh?

You neglect to mention that Hussein didn’t kill ANY Americans until Bush invaded, and there were probably close to 10,000 Iraqi civilians killed in the invasion

“By this logic, the Normandy invasion would never have happened, and God knows what the world would look like today. ”

Our first ground fighting against the Germans was in North Africa, in 1942.

I expect that, even if we didn’t mount invasions against them, German U-Boats would have sunk plenty of American ships in the Atlantic, and might well have joined the naval battles of the Pacific to some extent, in aid of Japan.

“Number of Americans killed by Osama bin Laden: 3,000+”

Hey, I can play this game too….

Strategic value of American military presence in Iraq, at the crossroads of terror-sponsoring states Syria, Iran, and Saudi Arabia: PRICELESS

Strategic value of Libertarian foreign policy, which demands a steady stream of bitching anytime America uses its military: WORSE THAN USELESS

Libertarian foreign policy motto: “Don’t initiate the use of force, but if you do so we’ll blame ourselves and bend over.”

    Libertarian economic policy: intelligent
    Libertarian foreign policy: LIMP-WRISTED

Ability/probability of post-war Afghanistan to fund and launch attacks on the US: zero

Ability/probability of pre-war Iraq to fund and launch attacks on the US: non-zero

    Okay then.

Considering that Bin Laden is dead ( and has been for some time now ), it’s not much point in looking for him.

The US goverment knows this but will never state it though, because without the corpse nobody will believe it.

The other terrorists buried him up in the Afgan/Pakistan mountains, and didn’t tell anyone else. After the next spectacular terrorist attack, they will claim that he was one of the martyrs that perished in the attack, giving him even more status…

Bob has it right on in his Dec. 31st missive. Perfect. The only reason we suffered 3000+ casualties 911 is because we didn’t kick Taliban rear until after. Osama declared war and we didn’t rise to defend ourselves. Thankfully we did when Saddam declared Jihad.

Not only are we taking out terrorists where such things belong (in THEIR homeland) and making the future safer for the next generation of Americans - but there’s some icing on the cake too!

    Bonus Iraq RESULTS:
    - Syria asked Israel to start talks after the new year. They haven’t talked since 1967!
    - Kadaffi the Civilian Murder Meister has decided to disarm and invited us to in his now open house.
    - Iran is allowing nuclear inspections.
    - N. Korea has shut up (for the time being).

Cost of sticking our noses into other countries business….more than anyone has bothered to add up.

Cost of the war in Iraq….more than anyone will admit.

Cost of war in Afganistan….more than they say

    Cost of rebuilding both…unbelievable

Cost to the American public…..the infrastructure of the US…including schools….our future

    All hypothetical numbers….
We better be friends with everybody within a decade or two because nuclear weapon proliferation is inevitable, although it could be delayed somewhat.
Just how long will Musharaf control Pakistan?
Will North Korea hold on to their nuke technology or sell it like they have sold every other kind of weapon they have ever produced?
We better be friends with everybody soon I tell you….
Can’t invade all potential adversaries especially if they are friends today, and enemies come the next ‘election’ - like Iran used to be…aren’t we lucky that they were not a nuclear power before things ‘turned’ over there?
The current policy is a dead-end policy, I think. And I am not here to suggest a better one either - that is Dubya’s job right now.
However, breeding scores of little Osamas, and pissing off almost 1/4 of the world’s population (Muslims)….very brave… ;-)

It has been estimated that the US Bush Administration has killed about 8,000 Afganis and 10,000 Iragis since 9/11. Yet, the US doesn’t really don’t know who was responsible for the 9/11 attacks. A search on the web suggests that Bin Laden (Al-Qeida) has killed some 8,000 people (conservative higher estimate). I ask, who is the actual terrorist? Bin Laden or Bush.

When you add the total number of human beings killed by both Bush senior and junior, the Bin Laden estimate doesn’t even enter the picture. The Bush(es) presidency has resulted in the killing of more people (innocent and military combined) than Bin Laden and Hussein combined.

If you research these numbers, you will find that the Bush(es) administration IS THE WORLDS LARGEST TERRORIST organization. THE AMERICANS MUST BE STOPPED!!!
