That’s “Big Government Conservatism.”
Doug Bandow has a wonderfully articulated piece on it in the latest American Conservative.
Doug nails it. I too was a critic of Clinton but never hated him. After all, he was about as conservative as we could ever expect from a Democrat.
I main emotion regard Clinton was sadness that a man of such immense ability squandered it.
I also am unhappy with Bush’s liberalism and budget excesses.
“First, George W. Bush, despite laudable personal and family characteristics, is remarkably incurious and ill read. Gut instincts can carry even a gifted politician only so far. And a lack of knowledge leaves him vulnerable to simplistic remedies to complex problems, especially when it comes to turning America into the globeĆ¢??s governess.”
Is this a conservative republican basically calling GW too STUPID to be President?
Is ‘Remarkably incurious’ the same as calling a garbage man a ‘sanitation engineer’, or a whore a ‘hospitality specialist’? On the whole this article softpedals Bush’s other faults, roll back of environmental protections, the (un)patriot act, and the sale off of the government to the highest donor. Aw shucks he just spends too much is just as simplistic as ‘hate’.
Great article overall.
