The Search Continues
Friday, December 5th, 2003The search for an unembarassing alternative to Bush for 2004 continues.
For the last couple of weeks, I’ve thought about supporting Joe Lieberman. His pro-trade, pro-market rhetoric in the debates has been refreshing, particularly in the face of the protectionist tripe coming from Dean and Gephardt, and was nearly enough to blur his silly positions on cultural issues and the “I’m God’s favorite” shtick he he pulled in the 2000 campaign.
Well, to hell with that. Joe Lieberman, libertarian, meet Joe Lieberman, nanny statist.

You’re being facetious, right? This seems entirely in keeping with Lieberman’s personality as our nation’s resident scold. (I don’t think I’ve ever heard him give a speech where he didn’t use the phrase “I’m saddened that..” in that patronizing tone.)
But I wouldn’t worry too much about it … as he told the Hollywood types in 2000 after getting the veep nomination, “I didn’t really mean what I said all those times.”
Have you considered voting for the Cthulhu for President ? Why vote for a lesser evil? I mean if you’re going to vote for an evil candidate you might as well vote for pure evil
One step forward, two steps back…
(via Agitator) Lieberman remains true to his social conservative roots by taking on the evil Jelly Donut, the scourge of America. Are there any grownups on the democratic candidate side?…
Gary Nolan is expected to be the libertarian frontrunner. You should check him out, considering you’re a libertarian. Lieberman’s a joke.
Im assuming that the weirdos in the LP are why you are looking for an “unembarassing” alternative in the Democratic Party.
But it isnt like the LP candidate is going to win. You will, I imagine, agree with his platform far more than any other candidate’s and you will have the opprotunity to cast a non-evil vote (and perhaps a meaningful one assuming that the Republicans notice and care about the number of Libertarian votes in a close race).
There’s a fine balance to be struck. While I obviously agreed more with Harry Browne in 2000, I voted Bush b/c he was still within my comfort range.
In 2004, he won’t be, and given that the Dems will run Dean or Gephardt, I’ll be voting for the LP candidate. Unless, of course, it’s Ferret Guy. Fellow Californians know who I’m referring to.
Well, ok, even I wouldn’t vote for Ferret Guy, Blue Guy, Druid Guy or Spitting-at-radio-host Guy–but in those cases, I just wouldn’t vote.
(for those not familiar with some of the strange LP people, you can start here: http://www.cnn.com/2002/ALLPOLITICS/10/02/offbeat.blue.candidate/)
Um… I actually did vote for Spitting-at-radio-host Guy. (*sheepish grin*) But only b/c I wasn’t aware that he had done that.
My favorite LP weirdo is “the real Kramer“.
You are going to have so much fun in that voting booth.
