Note to Self: Don’t Piss Off PETA

Wednesday, November 19th, 2003

Far be it for me to be the one who defends American Idol star Clay Aiken, but a possible ad campaign from PETA just seems downright nasty.

PETA is currently delaying the new ad with the slogan “Get Neutered, It Didn’t Hurt Clay Aiken,” while it waits to see if Aiken will apologize for negative comments he made about cats.

What comment could Aiken have possibly made to provoke this kind of attack? Apparently in an interview with Rolling Stone, he said “There’s nothing worse to me than a house cat. When I was about sixteen, I had a kitten and ran over it. Seeing that cat die, I actually think that its spirit has haunted me. I wasn’t afraid of cats before. But now they scare me to death,”

So Aiken doesn’t like cats. So what. The way I read this quote, Aiken is admitting to nothing more than being a scaredy-cat (bad pun fully intended, but only because it is so bad.) I don’t think he’s saying that he intended to run over his kitty. If anything he’s warning of the evils that will haunt anyone who does harm a cat.

What’s the solution? Probably nothing. I wasn’t going to support PETA anyway, so I can’t really write them and tell them that I’m going to withhold my money because of this. Any other action would have to be the decision of Clay Aiken. Still, just thought I would point out what seemed to be bad form by a well-known interest group.

    American Idol vs. PETA?

I can’t say that I really have a cat in this race.

Well at least it wasn’t the other PETA (Pinkos Exercising To Abba). They are a righteous bunch and would never go after poor Clay like that.

You know, you don’t have to apologize for Aiken’s lousy remarks about running over a cat to criticize PETA. Both are in poor taste.

I don’t think Aiken’s statement was in poor taste, just poorly phrased. But the point is, I’m sure PETA didn’t take the time to find out.

Yes, but it is only a matter of time until the 9th circuit decrees that you are unfit to consume meat and therefore must be forced into vegetarianism for your own benefit.

Either that or a group of meating-eating fat slobs with bad hearts and clogged arteries will raise a class action lawsuit which will force the entire beef industry into bankrupcy.

Besides do you have any idea how much corn cattle eat???

I love cats, and I have no problem with Aiken’s comments. I absolutely agree that there’s nothing there to suggest the advocacy of violence towards cats. Sure, it’s more of a flippant, comical statement than a serious warning not to run over cats, but so what.

Are you kidding? Apologize for Clay Aiken’s remarks? They made me laugh, because I hate cats, too. I hate them. They’re little women in fur coats. I can’t imagine why anyone would want one.

He made the comments in Rolling Stone. It’s not like he made them in Cat Fancy or something. Get over yourselves. A man is allowed to hate cats if he wants.

Jeb: A man is allowed to hate cats if he wants.

Not according to Liberalism. According to Liberalism the only thing you are allowed to â??Hateâ? is other peopleâ??s intolerances.

As animal rights advocates, why isn’t PETA trying to get cats included in recent hate crime legislation?

PETA recently offered the town of Rodeo, CA $20,000 worth of veggie burgers if they change their town name to Unity. They said the town name promotes rodeos, which are cruel to animals (which is true). They were apparently surprised when the town refused their “generous” offer.

Earlier this, PETA also offered $15,000 worth of veggie burgers to Fishkill, NY. Same response.

I can’t believe they ACTUALLY THINK these towns will change their names for veggie burgers. The administrative costs of the name change (for government and business) would FAR outpace $20,000.. let alone $20,000 of veggie burgers. PETA is obviously just looking for sensationalistic news coverage. There is no such thing as bad news, I guess.

I find myself wondering how many chickens would have never had the chance to experience existence in this universe if I did not pay a farmer to raise them so I could one day eat them?

And this is right in time for for PETA’s favorite holiday. I hope my Aunt continues her “kill as many animals as possible” contest this year with her Tur-Duck-en, Ham, and piles of deviled eggs. Nothing smells better than cooked bird flesh.

PETA Ad To Make Fun of Clay Aiken

    This is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

PETA, as usual, comes out with a stupid position on a totally inconsequential event. The media then happily reports on PETA’s ridiculous activities.

For PETA, their objective has been achieved. Everyone is sick to death of their “Free the Turkies” campaign, so this was a perfect alternative.

For them, any publicity is good publicity.
