An Elephant Never Forgets…

Do you think Barbour should ask the CCC to take his photo off of their website?
I don’t think he should have to because he obviously doesn’t have a problem with it. This just shows that he is a racist and that a large amount of racism exists in the South.
“The GOP will once again crush any hope or optimism that Americans can walk into a polling place without race being the silent lever in the voting booth.”
I agreed with the whole article until that statement. That is obvious pandering. In my mind, it throws the whole thing into question.
Why do columnists always have to take one final little party line dig that invalidates every intelligent thing they just said?
Tony, I don’t know where you’re from, but what racism still exists in America isn’t confined to the South. And to say that “a large amount of racism exists in the South” is blatantly wrong. You’re saying that the South is still trying to cling to segregated water fountains and restaurants. This isn’t true. There are people who belong to the CCC, but their views are no more conscionable to the average southerner than NAMBLA.
Be careful of your generalizations. Racism, as it exists, runs both ways and every way — white/black, black/asian, African-American/Haitian-American, etc.
I can tell you from experience that most blacks are more comfortable in the South as opposed to those in the North, East and West. At least those in the South know where they stand — if a white doesn’t like a black, he or she will make that claim. In the North, the white/black racism is covert, not like the overt South.
THANKS JEB
Thanks for correcting me Jeb. I didn’t mean to imply that all Southerners are racist. I am well aware that racism exists everywhere in the world and isn’t limited to a single race. I just don’t understand how the Republican party can endorse someone that doesn’t mind being affiliated with a racist group. Especially when they claim that they are trying to reach out to the Black population.
well, for one, I am glad that most southern conservatives have chosen CCC over NAMBLA as their preferred choice for political association. Although after looking at that picture of those old crackers at the CCC convention, I wondered if I was in fact looking at a NAMBLA convention.
That, of course, is not to imply that all aged CCC members are chickenhawks(although would you really be surprised if some were?)

The South is NOT your grandfather’s misery anymore.
