Groping for the Truth

Monday, October 6th, 2003

Too bad that my favorite scandal of the recall comes so near the end. But fortunately “Remarkable Women for Arnold” are here to keep the laughs rolling in.

Defense # 1: Groping women is A-okay.

In Modesto on Saturday afternoon, three young women admired Shriver’s prominent cheekbones and declared afterward that they needed to diet. “Then maybe I’ll get someone like Arnold,” said Tiffany Lopez, 21, who “definitely, definitely” planned to vote for Schwarzenegger — her first vote, ever. The women issue? “Not an issue at all,” she said. “I’d let him grope me any time!”

Defense #2: Those women were asking for it.

[One woman] said that she had seen Schwarzenegger on two occasions in Orange County many years ago, when he was Mr. Universe and her ex-husband, a body builder, had taken her to competitions. “The women were all over him,” she said. “He didn’t care about them; they wanted him.”

Defense #3: Registered nurse expert opinion is that women are silly.

Robin Tamas, 35, a registered nurse in Pleasanton, where she attended a Saturday afternoon rally for Schwarzenegger, said that her experience with women has taught her that they often flirt with men and then accuse them of misbehaving. “The allegations don’t sway me at all,” said Tamas, a registered Republican. “I’m very pro-woman. But unfortunately, because I work with women, I know how silly they can act.”

Defense #4: It’s not like he killed anybody.

“It’s been hard to figure it all out,” [one] said. “This has been such a confusing, fast election. Now, we’re almost at election day and we get this dirt. Look at what President Clinton did, and everybody still loves him.” She paused a moment. “Arnold didn’t kill anybody. We’re in a financial crisis, and he sounds like he could fix it.”

Defense #5: These gropings never happened.

“Maria Shriver is no pushover,” [another] said. “Arnold’s wife is not the kind of woman who would just sit back and let her husband behave that way.”

Well, I’m sold: groping women is fine as long as the women who were groped were asking for it and as long as the groper in question is in a position to help the economy and his wife is a no-nonsense kind of broad. Problem solved.

Yeah… groping women is NOT fine.

Neither is sending CA’s economy into the shitter.

But these are basically the two choices we are being offered… hooray for plurality voting!

    Well, women are silly.

The man apologized for his groping. What more is he supposed to do?

Not that I have any great regard for Arnie, not that I really care if he wins in California or not – but:

“it’s not like he killed anybody”

Which is true enough – unlike Clinton, of blessed memory.

“80 dead at Waco.” Lest we forget.

Lest we forget just who and what the Democrats really were – and still are.

    Amusing, this left coast is.

With all of Arnold’s wealth, you would have thought any one of these accusers could have tapped into it with a lawsuit over the groping, even if it were done as an out-of-court settlement to protect his movie career.

Maybe he groped, and maybe he didn’t. But, the timing of these accusations is such as to cast real doubt on the veracity of the accusers.

Besides, as a regular subscriber to the LA Times, the publisher of this nonsense, I can assure you that they have an agenda that is so much farther left than the NY Times that even their obituaries are slanted.

My advice to California voters: vote as if everything you’ve read about the candidates in the LA Times was fiction. Then, cancel your subscription, just as I have just done. It takes something like this incident followed by mass cancellations to get the attention of their management.

Wow. This describes Clinton to the ‘t’. Scary.

Right you are. How come conservatives are complaining that the Democrats are railroading Arnold with such claims when the they were doing the same thing to Clinton just a few years ago? I love it when hypocrites cry hypocricy.

  12. #12 |  Delphine |

Because Clinton did this while in office. He was also accused of rape, remember. That’s a lot more serious than a grope.

  13. #13 |  Dani-girl |

Clinton’s behavior was the same pre and post-Whitehouse.

    I always say, once a groper, always a groper…

  14. #14 |  Dani-girl |

Republicans were doing this same thing to Clinton in 92 when he initial run.
I am in no way a Clinton fan, but Brooke is right, hypocrisy is hypocrisy whether it’s committed by conservative or liberal.

    Let’s see:

    1. You THINK Bush is lying, and
    2. You THINK Schwart. groped ALL those women.

JERK-OFF CLINTON LIED ABOUT ABUSING WOMEN AND THAT’S OK?

WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO KID ?

  16. #16 |  brooke |

You, M. I’m trying to kid you. But you are way too smart.

Anyway, what does G-Dubs have to do with this? All I’m saying is that the very nature of partisanship makes hypocrites of partisans–when it’s your guy it’s okay, when it’s their guy it’s shameful.

Pointing out the hypocrisy is neither my tacit nor explicit condemnation of the hypocrites, nor has anyone here said that abuse of women or lying about the abuse of women is ok (tongue in cheek remarks aside).

For the record, I find it hard to believe that Arnold really did much univited groping. I was just pointing out the funny defenses the “Remarkable Women for Arnold” had.
