Then and Now
Monday, September 15th, 2003“We’re dealing with a country that can really finance its own reconstruction, and relatively soon.”
– Paul Wolfowitz to Congress, last March.
“Cheney: $87 Billion May Not Be Enough”
– Dallas Morning News headline, referring to Cheney’s appearance on Meet the Press yesterday. That $87 billion is in addition to the $79 billion already approved by Congress.

I’m thinking that the entire Administration is engaged in that one Saturday Night Live skit (with Joe Montana) where the people’s thoughts can be heard.
I am pro-Bush administration and even I agree with Wolfowitz. Isn’t Iraq one of the largest oil producers in the world? Why isn’t this a loan rather than money from our (the American tax payers’) pockets? That I just don’t understand.
And to be fair to Cheney, he also mentioned on Meet The Press that eventually the Iraqi oil would be able to pay for much of the expenses. whether that is true or not, I don’t know
Oil or no oil, it does not mater.

I loved when Cheney cited the involvment of an Iraqi in the original World Trade Center bombing as proof that Sadam was in bed with al Queda, but dismissed the lack of Iraqis, and the Saudi majority, in the 9/11 operation, as irrelevant.
