Dean No More

Monday, July 21st, 2003

I learned last night from a conversation with Zoe Mitchell, who works in activist drug policy (meaning she fights against the drug war), that Ex-Gov. and Presidential Wannabe Howard Dean was a rabid drug warrior as governor of Vermont. To the point where he fought even medicinal marijuana measures. In Vermont.

Consider my brief flirtation with voting for Dean over.

Sheesh. It’s pretty sad when you resign yourself to a standards-lowing, no-other-options protest vote — and have to hold your breath, plug your nose and get sloppy drunk to bring yourself to even that — and the candidate you’ve reluctantly come to support still finds a way to disappoint.

Pshaw.

The Granite Staters for Medical Marijuana site has the best information on Dean’s pro-drug war stance. They even gave him the worst grade out of the Democratic candidates.

So basically what you’re saying is that for you to vote for Dean… you’d have to get high.

You would think that he would do more to support his base.

Howard Dean promises to make the trains run on time and give free drugs to old people. How could such a man be wrong about anything?

I’m all for timely train arrivals, but why vote for Dean at all, if you’re a libertarian? Why not just vote… libertarian?

Wow a socialist who doesn’t believe in one’s right to self medicate? Now there is a shock.

I don’t get this (fellow) libertarian fascination with that ass-hat.

Radley Balko has (for the time being, at least) given up on Howard Dean, due to his drug policies. My favorite part: It’s pretty sad when you resign yourself to a standards-lowing, no-other-options protest vote — and have to hold…

Well, I guess it’s in comparison to the others, who are less hat, more ass.
