Saturday, May 10th, 2003Charles Johnson — who long ago made me embarassed for having once defended him — is gloating that the guy who opened fire at Case Western Reserve University on Friday is also an anti-war activist.
Johnson points out that had the gunman been a Republican or an NRA member or somesuch, the “liberals” would have been quick to make these facts known.
Okay, Charles. I guess, then, that you’re attempting to show us that you can be every bit as ad-hominem and ignorant as the left?
Bullseye. Well done.
Methinks Johnson’s “let’s-make-sausage-of-everything-Arab” bloodlust is quickly approaching psychosis.
Note also that Johnson’s charming, infamous comments section now dubs Rachel Corrie — the peace activist who was killed by an Israeli bulldozer — as “the flat bitch.”
I’ve read conflicting accounts of what actually happened with Corrie — that it was anything from a freak accident to a murder; that she was mowed down or that she was partly culpable in her death. I’m not sure which account I believe.
But no account I’ve read makes the LGF minions’ moniker for her any less vile.

I don’t know if you should really blame Charles for the folks in his comments section. I’m pretty sure that if Instapundit’s comments were still on, there would be a freak show in those as well. What I’m getting at is that the site is popular, and very polarizing, thusly, extremists of all types congregate there and take shots at anyone and everyone. As for Johnson himself, I read the site everyday, and I think he does a good job of exposing bias. I don’t think he claims to be unbiased himself though, so he’s entitled to his opinions. Maybe I need some examples, but I don’t see him making blanket statements….he’s usually ticked off about specific events or instances.
I think i’m just getting the impression that you don’t like him in general. you don’t usually take personal shots at other bloggers. I just find it curious.
First: As a commentor at LGF I can honestly say that at least this one hasn’t leapt to urinate on the grave of Rachel Corrie. I do believe that she and the organization with which she was affiliated are either deluded or dangerous. ‘Nuff said.
Second: Just how is Mr. Johnson’s comment an ad hominem attack? Whom is he attacking personally?
Third: Rather that be upset at the content posted at LGF you could run something contra from time to time to counter-balance. Perhaps direct people to it if you don’t do it yourself? I don’t think that’s possible though. You are engaging in some ad hominem yourself if you think he’s engaging in ‘”let’s-make-sausage-of-everything-Arab” bloodlust’. Just where are the stories of the positive things Saudi Arabia, the “Palestinians”, Islam (particularly the militant brand but I’m being redundant), or anything else from that region coming from other than the propaganda arms of the press there?
I’d suggest the truth hurts and you don’t want to face it. There are definitely some over the top comments but it goes with the territory.
I don’t get it. If you wanted to diss LGF you could have found something much worse, easily. This post actually seems fair, which is abnormal for that blog.
Perhaps Jim would like to point out why he thinks Mr Balko is a “leftist wacko”? Is it his distaste for the vile hatred spewed forth by certain LGF commentors?
As for the original post, I think I’ve got to agree with wes and “Bellicose”: CJ may be privately gloating, but here he was just stating a fact (that the gunman was vocally anti-war). His /commentors/, of course, saw the chance to gloat and jumped on it. But what does one expect from LGF?

Well this just gets to the real LGF issue which is how responsible is Charles for the comments? I think that the way the discourse is skewed over there by the extreme minority drags the entire site over. Of course talking about LGF comments invariably brings a bunch of people over and the harsher voices usually manage to poison things.
