Meanwhile, the WMD/snipe hunt continues. Via Jim Henley, blogger Cogent Provocateur brings up an interesting point: if the Bush administration was confident Iraq had the pounds and pounds and pounds of bio-agent Colin Powell claimed that had in his speech to the UN — and now it’s gone — shouldn’t we be on terror-alert “holy shit?” If Saddam had everything we said he had, and now we can’t find it, shouldn’t we be busting ass all over the world to find out who he gave it to?

    There are crucial differences between a snipe hunt and a snark hunt. I do hope that it is only the former and not the latter in which the US is engaged.

    The snark was a boojum, you see.

    I keep running into comments that the search is not running on full steam – that some of the teams were diverted. I saw a news article stating that one of the Ranger battalions was back home. The big Iraqi reactor site was ‘secured’ long after looters pillaged it. The Pentagon didn’t get the search teams ready until after the major fighting was over (they should have been following the ‘front’ closely.

    Everything I’ve read that discusses what is going on points in the direction that this search is not a #1 priority, when it clearly should be.

    Then on the other hand, do you honestly think anyone on this planet, after having seen what happened to the Hussein regime because we simply thought he might have such weapons, would continue to hang on to them, much less play their hand and use them??? Get real! These weapons are either destroyed or buried so deep they’ll never be found or used. We have the men and women who made the damn things, what more do you need? You were wrong about this war and you are still wrong and your continued effort to hang on to your failed ideal that Iraq wasn’t a threat to us is really rather pathetic.
