More Diamond Dave!
Friday, May 2nd, 2003This past weekend, DAVID LEE ROTH apprehended and detained a knife-wielding man who trespassed on the singer’s Southern California estate. At 3:00 AM on Saturday April 26, ROTH was awakened by the sounds of breaking branches to discover a man had scaled his manor’s 10 foot high wall. ROTH grabbed his shotgun and went onto the grounds where he encountered the man who was carrying a knife.
ROTH cornered the man and held him until the Pasadena Police arrived to take him away in handcuffs. Says ROTH: “Anyone found bearing arms here at nightâ?¦will be found here in the morning.”
ROTH was home preparing for a summer tour in support of his new forthcoming release DIAMOND DAVE (due July 8 on Magna Carta).
When Sammy Hagar apprehends a would be knife-murderer, we’ll talk.

Roth is a big proponent of firearm rights, particularly after his dentist father defended himself from a kidnapping attempt intended to ransom money from his son. You can read about it in DLR’s train-of-thought autobio “Crazy From the Heat.”
I have to admit, this moved Roth up a few notches in my eyes. DLR is into guns, and Sammy’s into tequila. Chalk up a win for Diamond Dave.
In fairness, Dave has done some pretty good non-VH music, but Sammy’s solo stuff is still better…
And you were making fun of him.
See, a gun is real easy
In this desperate part of town
Turns you from hunted into hunter

This is not really a shock, DLR has been into judo since the early days of Van Halen. Its one of the reasons he could do some of the crazy stuff he did on stage.
Roger is right, Sammy’s solo stuff is way better than DLR’s. Of course, Sammy is a better musician than DLR ever was…
