As promised, a mini-photo essay from the Landmark-area dog park.

Let’s get right to it.

First, the walk to the park. On the way, we spot a squirrel…

I don’t know what she’d ever do if she actually caught one. Every time she’s met an animal smaller than her (rabbits, cats, a hamster once), she’s been scared to death of it.

So here is the dog park, from afar…

And here are my particular park’s dog park Nazis I told you about. You can see one of them (we’ll say it’s “Barry,” since I gave them fake names) kneeling in the foreground. “Jim” is in the background. Tonight he was planting about a half dozen new trees her peruaded the city of Alexandria to donate. Again, he gets paid for none of this. And he and Jim are there every day. Seriously. Every day.

Here’s my pup and a shepherd mix at play. One thing about my dog — she doesn’t abide by the internationally agreed-upon doggie rules of play. For example, she’s been known to playfully bite other dogs on the eye. Sometimes, while playing the “come catch me” game, she’ll throw a “chop block” at another dog’s knees, similar to those the Denver Broncos offensive line is notorious for. She’s also been known to bite another dog squarely on the anus, then immediately roll over and submit when that dog gets understandable angry. This is because she’s had both knees completely rebuilt, and therefore can’t quickly escape after instigating with the anus-biting.

This dog playing with mine was some sort of mix I couldn’t quite figure out. But I thought he was cool, so I took his picture. It wasn’t easy. He evaded the camera. Makes me think he’s probably got a little Sean Penn in him….

Finally, the reason we go to the dog park in the first place: so the pup is tired and low-maintanence for the rest of the evening….

That concludes the tour. Hopefully next time I bring my camera, “Pogo,” the famous three-legged dalmation will be in attendance. If so, we may then have to test the “movie” feature of the new digital camera. Pogo must be witnessed in motion.
