My Final Four: Louisville, Kentucky, Illinois, UCONN.

Kentucky beats Louisville in the final. And yes, I expect to have my Indiana alumni status revoked as a result of my all-state-of-Kentucky finals prediction.

Other NCAA Tournament predictions:

1) The Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis University Jaguars (or, IUPUI, or “Oo-ie-Poo-ie,” as it’s pronounced in the greater Indianapolis area) will become the first-ever 16-seed to beat a 1-seed. They’ll beat Kentucky. Yes, that’s a ridiculous prediction, and not consistent with my Final Four prediction. But I’m making it anyway.

2) Other 1st round upsets: Butler over Mississippi St. San Diego over Stanford. Weber St. over Wisconsin. Penn over Oklahoma St.

3) Texas will be the first #1 seed to lose. They’ll lose in the second round.

4) Arizona and Oklahoma will both lose in the Sweet Sixteen.

5) The Big 12 will prove to be a bust.

My Final Four:Kentucky, Kansas, Florida, Oklahoma.

Although my fellow alums and I hope you’re right about the Illini. I don’t have too many upsets in my bracket… Duke goes down to Creighton, BYU over UCONN (yup, I’m that guy), and Auburn advances to the Elite 8.

I’m a Hoosier fan too, and nobody though they would go that far last year. Of course we are without Jefferies.

Your prediction about the Big 12 being a bust has been right on so far (as of 3/21 at 5:35pm CST): other than Mizzou, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, none of the Big 12 teams that have played in this year’s tournament have moved onto the second round.

Wake up and smell the coffee, Hoosier fans… Just because Knight’s team is not very good (compared to his worst nightmare — everything in the Big 12 above the Panhandle) doesn’t reflect on the other 11 teams in the conference; okay, maybe it reflects on Nebraska and K-State… but one of these days the Wildcats and the Huskers will figure out how to dribble a football, and THEN they will be a force on the court.

Just wait until the weekend April 5th, when we folks here in Big 12 country will enjoy the 2003 Final Four down in New Orleans (featuring the Jayhawks, the Tigers, the Longhorns and the Sooners/Cowboys), otherwise known as the Big 12 Championship, PART II!!! Basketball was invented here, and we STILL own the court.

OK, so maybe I was wrong about the Big 12.

But the Big 10 is 5-0. And teams from the state of Indiana are 4-1.

I think Big 10 country and Hoosierdom is holding its own.
