The Fox piece got nice mentions at The Corner and from TheAgitator.com favorite Mickey Kaus (scroll down a bit).

Both Kaus and Corner readers point out (as I do in the article) that the PIRG scam has been going on for 30 years, so it’s not exactly news. But you’d be amazed at how many people aren’t aware that it still goes on.

Kaus also rightly observes that private schools who adopt the PIRGs’ mandatory, nonrefundable fee policy probably aren’t violating the Constitution. That’s true. And in fact, even state schools who use the reverse check system are probably okay under Southworth.

But passing Constitutional muster doesn’t mean the schemes aren’t still sleazy, underhanded and manipulative. And, of course, shamelessly hypocritical.

UPDATE: More from Colby Cosh and from Sasha and Ian, who encountered some USPIRG protesters in Boston.

I realize it was a bit embarrassing to admit to finding out about the piece from Kaus, instead of here at Agitator. It’s not that I don’t read this site super often! But there’s something about Kaus that sends me back there like three, four times a day. His political singularity? His gift for whimsy? All of the above, no doubt, but maybe it’s just that he only posts about fifty words a day, and thus comes across like the Oracle of Delphi… you know, kind of gnomic and Olympian.
