Nostalgia for 900 Million Murdered
Friday, February 28th, 2003Apparently, Germans are lusting for the good ol’ days of communism. You know — gulags, bread lines, secret police.
Ach, du meine gute.
Apparently, Germans are lusting for the good ol’ days of communism. You know — gulags, bread lines, secret police.
Ach, du meine gute.
Naturlich.
I hear the employees aren’t allowed to leave the park and will be shot if they try.
Do you think they will get Lenin as a centerpiece attraction?
Will high income visitors have to pay more to enter the park?
I have a poster from a (former) East German art gallery (in Weimar, a university town) for an exhibition called (roughly translated) “Enough with it,” referring to reunited Germany. It is illustrated with a photo of the statues of Lenin and Marx in Berlin, with “We are not guilty” scrawled at the bottom.
Crap–how did that happen: Marx and ENGELS, the statue is of Marx and Engels, which is obviously quite different.
I think I need some sleep.
Don’t say a ride sux or you may face a death squad.
Amperestunde, Gute Zeiten!
“Hoping to capitalise on a wave of nostalgia for Communist East Germany”
Ha, I love it. hoping to CAPITALIZE on communism, is this not the epitome of irony? They finally found something communism was good for… making money.
