Police have released a videotape showing witnesses doing nothing to help a man after he was fatally shot at a gas station.The station surveillance tape shows the Jan. 31 slaying of Allen Price, 43. It also shows one man continuing to pump kerosene after looking briefly at the body. He then pays for the kerosene and drives off.
The camera also recorded several cars pulling away from the station after the shooting, with at least one car pulling up to the kerosene pump beside Price after he was shot.
Police interviewed people on a passing city bus but they say no one saw anything.
The tape shows Price standing at a gas pump while another man stands nearby at another pump, then it shows a suspect running up, shooting Price in the head and then running away.
Police said the man at the nearby pump did nothing and, at one point, even stepped over Price’s body.
Police said dozens of people on a passing Metro bus also saw the shooting. Only one person has called investigators.
We don’t have those kinds of problems in the suburbs. Unless you have an emergency case of appendicitis, and happen to live next door to man-hating lesbians.
The lesbian neighbor story was the first one I’ve ever read of this site. Does that interest anyone?… Anybody? … Bueler?… Bueler?
I don’t know what to say about the folks ignoring the crime and the body. I’ve never seen anything like it where I’m from.
Something like that happened to me once (not the shooting, the other story). Suffice to say, hippies may have some dumb politics, but they’re really nice people.
Yes, the Brave New World certainly is upon us. Apathy, de-sensitisation, blood/war lust, rampant supidity, voyeurism TV, drug use… it’s all there.

Funny, the lesbian story reminds me of “Chasing Amy.” Friendly Lesbian, man-hating bull dyke, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. Which one gets to the 100 dollar bill first?
Why is it that all kinds of inexpensive home video equipment can give you a nice picture, but surveillance equipment can’t even come close?
No wonder the police are hoping for some witnesses to step forward; they sure won’t catch the guy by looking at this video.
This is some pretty chilling stuff, though, regardless of how little you could see on the video.
By the way - the post about Lesbians and Appendicitis was one of the best I’ve ever read on the topic.
Reminds me of the Simpson Riots in LA. When that truck driver was beeing beaten to death, and nobody offered assistance. No one.
Simpson riots? The only way we could’ve possibly gotten that would be if he’d been convicted. Maybe not even then.
You mean Rodney King, I’m positive… And during the incident you were referring to, the camera was a television news chopper. Did they ever try calling for any help, or did they just film?
Always amazing how people can be so indifferent to others suffering. I always think of it as self perpetuating bad karma that they have mastered.

My mistake, You are right it was rodney king. Never the less, Whether it was the people on the ground or the news people, it was terrible.

This incident is not an urban thing. I have lived in the city all my life and I have met far better people in the city than in the suburbs. If you live in the suburbs you are most likely snooty, stuck up, and full of yourself. They think they are better than everybody because they make more money, and they drive like they own the streets. Race is not an issue here but many of the people that live in the suburbs are white.
I can remember Columbine. Nothing like that happened in the city, and no one helped those poor boys who were laughed at everyday in high school who decided to carry bombs and guns to school. And as another comment, I bet those people that left that guy there to die were from the suburbs. They probably thought that they were too good to help the poor guy, and just stepped right over him.
P.S. 98 percent of America is insensitive to the plight of other people (especially blacks and hispanics.)
