How about “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)” by the Talking Heads? I think it’s the finest love song I ever heard, and it also happens to be my favorite song. Ever. As for “Alison”, well, I guess it is technically a love song, but I don’t know that you’d want to dedicate it to your sweetie.

Now I think we can all agree that Hip-Hop/Rap or whatever you want to call it, is crap.

But…if anyone feels so inclined to take a gander, check out “Light” by Common. It’s still hip-hop, yes, but the lyrics and corus are excellent. Beautiful song.

Why the hell is “Rebel Girl” on the list?

“There is a Light” by The Smiths in another ommision. The best love song I can think of is “It’s Hard to Turn Me On,” by Quasi. The lyric goes “it’s hard to turn me on/but you turn me on…” Ah, frigid young indie love.
