Liberty and the Pledge
Monday, December 30th, 2002A cheery fellow named Robert Smet sends the following email:
I saw how few real liberatarians there really are in this country when the Pledge of Allegiance issue came up several months ago and many of those libertarians wholeheartedly backed the idea of GOVERNMENT-imposed recitation of The Pledge (i.e., patriotic correctness). So much for “keeping government out of our lives”. The libs talk the talk but can’t walk the walk.
Funny, I don’t remember any libertarians voicing support for forced recitation of the pledge.
Here was my initial reaction to the Ninth Circuit decision. I’d guess Mr. Smet should agree with most of it.
