…in Arlington’s “Common Grounds” coffee shop this morning as “King of Pain” was playing in the background:

Attractive college-aged girl: Who sings this?

Jaded, goateed cofeee shop guy: The Police.

Attractive college-aged girl: Really? They sound a lot like Sting.

My girlfriend once played Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground” at her store. One of the 20-year-old shopgirls listened for a bit, and said, “God, he really spoiled the Chilis’ song.”

Some years back a very young MTV reporter, upon hearing that the interviewee was a fan of Thelonious Monk asked, “Who is ‘the loneliest monk’?”

That’s true, though. The Police really do sound a lot like Sting.

it would take an extreme act of willpower to keep from slapping someone upside their head for a remark like that. kinda if like a mob-boss “whatsa matta wit you eh?” slap on the head.

Unfortunately, Sting sounds nothing like The Police anymore. Does anyone remember the Onion op-ed “You know, I used to be cool once”? Unfortunately, it’s not online anymore.
